Check out the June issue of Grappling Magazine (it'll hit the newsstands on May 1, 2005). There's an interview of the ol' coach (me) called "A GRAPPLER'S EDGE" where I'm asked about my competitive career, my instructors, the Schultz brothers, grappling, pankration and my plans for the future.

There's also an interview with one of my coaches called "The Ultimate Producer". Willy tells about his father's start in Kodenkan Jiu-Jitsu (training with Professor Okazaki back in 1937), his family's move from Hawaii to California, his illness as a child, his inheritance of the Cahill's Academy when his father passed away, how he sees the future of American Judo, and some of his secrets that helped him produce over 900 National and International Champions. There's a great old picture of the Cahill's team from around 1970 (boy were they tough), and a couple of neat pictures of Willy and his kids Curtis and Karin (I used to compete against Curtis, and I still have a crush on Karin).

And... There's an article written by me about the "2004 Pancrase USA North American Submission Wrestling Championships". This is just a short (2 page) article, but it will be followed up in the July issue with an article on the 2005 Pancrase tournament (which will be pretty big). This article has a brief description of the Men's Advanced Finals, but it has some pictures from the Pancrase archives including: Nick Marr, Amal Easton, Nobuo Yagai, Elliot Marshall, Brock Jensen, Scott Marshall, Alberto Crane, Eric Koble, Erwin Lopez and the 2004 Grappler's Edge Team.  Anyway....Check out Grappling Magazine!

Promoter Sven BOOGIE Bean is happy to announce that RING OF FIRE #16:NO LIMIT! will take place on Saturday, April 9th at the DC Event Center in Castle Rock, CO. The format will include both MMA and K-1 Rules matches.

The main event will feature the Mixed Martial Arts return of Duane BANG! Ludwig. The Denver, Colorado based fighter is known for his tremendous Muay Thai ability. He is a regular on K-1 Japan events and is an ISKA World Champion in the sport. Ludwig has also amassed a 12 - 3 record in MMA, and has competed on pay per view for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. While he quickly rose to the world level in ultimate fighting, his local fans have not seen him compete under MMA rules since February of 2001. At the NO LIMIT event Ludwig will be facing Minnesota fighter, Sam THE SQUEEZE Morgan. Morgan has a 16 - 5 record and has competed internationally for Shooto Japan. Morgan has an aggressive style and is comfortable fighting on his feet or on the ground.

In the feature bout of the evening Young Guns Champion Luke Lil' HULK Caudillo will put his belt on the line when he faces BJJ stylist Alvin Robinson. Caudillo is known for his relentless style in the ring. The Nebraska wrestler has appeared on 4 ROF shows and has quite a fan base in Denver. The event has 12 bouts scheduled and will have an international flair with the addition of England's Lee Shone. The tough UK fighter will cross the Atlantic to lock up with Vern Baca of Colorado BJJ. PANCRASE USA - Belt Rank Promotions

2-19-2005

Denver/Broomfield/Boulder, CO

The Pancrase Promotions Committee promotes the following martial artists to the rank of blue belt.

Jim Wright

Jim Wright was promoted to Blue Belt (Fighter Grade and Self-defense Grade) on 3 February 2005 at Wright’s Carolina Karate Center (WCKC). This promotion demonstrates a true desire to become a complete martial artist. Sensei Wright has been involved in the marital arts for over twenty years and still continues to explore new arts.

Mr. Wright is a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Marine Corps and is stationed on Camp Lejeune, NC. His martial arts accomplishments prior to this include Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do, 1st Dan Shotokan, 1st Dan Go Shin Jitsu, 1st Dan Marine Corps Martial Arts, 2nd Dan Go Ju Ryu, 4th Dan Fudozen Kempo and Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Luis Scuri and the Alliance.

Captian Jerry Roeder and Luis Contreras

Luis Leal Contreras was also promoted to Blue Belt (Self-defense Grade) on 3 February 2005. Luis is currently a Marine with the 8th Marine Regiment and is set to deploy to Iraq in the near future.

Luis has been training at WCKC since August 2004 and has improved rapidly. This is largely due to his work ethic both in and out of class. Luis always takes notes of everything he can in class and then spends his time drilling with anyone he can find. In the absence of a training partner, Luis can be found visualizing his new techniques. Coach Roeder has no doubt that greatly contributes to his rapid progress.
