CAGE RAGE GETS KNOCKOUT BACKING FROM NEW PARTNER, PROELITE

9-7-2007, PNW

Denver, CO

“Cage Rage Championships” Will Be Showcased Under ProElite’s Global Live Events Division - EliteXC

London (Sept. 7, 2007) – Sensational news for Mixed Martial Arts fans in the United Kingdom. Cage Rage, Britain’s original MMA brand and leader since 2002, is about to get bigger – and better.

ProElite, Inc. [PELE.PK], an entertainment and media company dedicated to producing world-class MMA events, today announced the acquisition of Cage Rage Championships (CRC), Britain’s premier MMA organization.

The formal announcement of the new partnership was made by Gary Shaw, President of EliteXC, the respected live fight division of Los Angeles, Calif.-based ProElite.

“This is an exciting day for all of our organizations, but the biggest winners will be fans in the U.K.,’’ Shaw said. “In a short span of eight months, EliteXC has already got the well-deserved reputation for staging sensational fights with the world’s top fighters.

“With the acquisition of Cage Rage Championships, ProElite and EliteXC continues to establish itself as the fast-growing, premier MMA organization in the world.

“I look forward to developing young English fighters and turning them into true world champions, ala Ricky Hatton in boxing.’’

ProElite’s partnership will help secure CRC’s foothold as the UK’s No. 1 MMA organization, as well as provide the resources needed to expand the company’s operations into an international fight brand.

Under the expert leadership of Shaw, who also is a world renowned boxing promoter – he staged Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson, Joe Calzaghe vs., Jeff Lacy and many other major prizefights around the world – EliteXC’s brand will adopt CRC into it’s global strategy and feature British talent in what is purported to be the fastest growing sport in the world.

“Cage Rage is king in the U.K., and this deal will help ensure the organization attains its true potential,” said Irishman William Kelly, Chief Operating Officer of ProElite. “Britain excels in MMA, and we are truly excited by the way Cage Rage has gained popularity and mesmerized the imaginations of fight fans around the world. The British bull dog spirit is alive and well – and we will help Cage Rage bark even louder across Britain and Europe.

“ProElite’s involvement is an important step in our company’s growth and development, as we emerge as the premium MMA organization in Britain,” added Andy Geer, co-founder and promoter of five year old Cage Rage. “The EliteXC brand is held in the highest esteem in fighting echelons, and we are honored by their support.

“This partnership will help us achieve our goals, and the world will be watching as we give audiences the premier experience in MMA. As we move forward, the national brand of Cage Rage will continue to back British talent to the hilt and pitch it against the very elite of international fighters in our own inimitable style.”

Offered Dave O’Donnell, co-founder and promoter of Cage Rage, who introduced MMA to Britain with Geer in 2002: “Our fight nights will reap the benefit of ProElite’s support, as we continue to show audiences the breadth of athleticism and excitement this sport embodies. Our goal is to help MMA shake off its ‘underground’ image and showcase the true skills and commitment required to reach the top in this fight format, which combines no less than four Olympic combat disciplines.”

Cage Rage returns to Wembley Arena on Saturday, Sept. 22, when EliteXC presents Cage Rage 23 before what is expected to be another sell-out crowd

Media powerhouse and broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting Ltd. brought MMA into the mainstream of British sports when it started broadcasting live televised Cage Rage events on its primetime Saturday night schedule. All Cage Rage Championship events are broadcast live on Sky Sport 3.

ProElite’s CEO, Douglas DeLuca, took notice and immediately pursued CRC as a television-friendly brand.

“I’ve produced hundreds of TV shows over the years and instantly recognized the character in Dave and Andy’s presentation of the sport. In our efforts to build a world media presence, CRC was a natural choice,’’ DeLuca said.

International interest has never been higher with the promotion being beamed to fight fans in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Korea, Japan and other fight savvy territories.

Said Kelly Perdew, President of social networking division ProElite.com, “Cage Rage is one of the most exciting MMA events we have streamed on www.ProElite.com. We are looking forward to bringing more of the same live interactive action to fans worldwide. Watch the live stream on Sept. 22 on proelite.com.

Renato "Babalu" Sobral - Statement following NSAC hearing & UFC Firing

9-1-2007, PNW

Denver, CO

To My Family, Friends, Fans and Sponsors:

Since UFC 74, I have wanted to speak publicly about my fight with David Heath. I waited to do so, however, out of respect for the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Zuffa, Inc. and Dana White. After all, it is their efforts that have legitimized Mixed Martial Arts in the sports world and I realize that my conduct has unintentionally hindered those efforts. For that, among other things, I am deeply sorry.

I have been fighting professionally since 1998. Prior to my fight with David Heath, my professional record was twenty-seven wins with seven losses. Fourteen of my victories came by way of submission. Not once was I ever accused of holding a choke or submission too long. If anything, there has always been and continues to be a great camaraderie between my opponents and I after the fight. Being a professional mixed martial artist is more than a career to me. It is my livelihood and my way of life. Consequently, I am deeply sorry for any embarrassment that has been brought upon the sport, other mixed martial artists (especially David Heath), my Academy and most importantly, my family.

As if the embarrassment were not enough, my actions during the fight with David and my comments afterwards, have already resulted in severe financial loss to my family because as you know, in addition to my win bonus still being withheld, yesterday I was released from my contract with the UFC.

There has been much talk about things that may have been said to me by David Heath at the weigh-in. What David said to me at the weigh-in didn’t matter then and doesn’t matter now. What matters are my comments after the fight. And, regardless of what you may read by so called MMA experts on the internet, I never said that I purposefully choked-out David Heath. In short, my post-fight comments, while inappropriate, were not intended to be comments about the choke. Rather, they were intended to be comments about the aggressive performance that I put in.

I did not intentionally choke out David Heath. The first that I realized that David had tapped was when people told me that he did after the fight. When I finally had the chance to view the tape, I see that he did. When David tapped, I did not feel it. I wish I did for I would have let it go. Instead, I continued to hold it. Not because I was upset or wanted him to lose consciousness. I held it because I didn’t know he tapped and I was intent on winning the fight. Holding on to a choke a little long is not an uncommon mistake made in training, and never in my career have I witnessed or heard of an injury resulting from it.

When I had the choke, I was not looking the referee in the eyes as one commentator erroneously observed. Nor did I hear the referee issue any verbal command to release the hold. Instead, my head was down to strengthen the move and my eyes closed with focus. As a result, I did not feel the referee tap me the first time either. It was not until he put his hands on my right shoulder that I felt him trying to separate us. When I felt this, I immediately released the choke.

After this morning’s hearing I traveled to the UFC’s office to meet with Dana White. Contrary to recent reports in the media, this meeting was not to discuss my being released from the UFC. In fact, this meeting was arranged prior to my even being released from the contract. The purpose of the meeting was for me to personally apologize to Dana while at the same time thank him for all the opportunities that the UFC has given to my family and I. Unfortunately, I was unable to meet with Dana due to a calendaring error Nevertheless, thanks Dana and my apologies.

I am a professional fighter. This is what I do for a living. I do not hold a day job and then train at night to fight. I know nothing else but how to fight. This is how I support my family.

On behalf of my family and friends, I appreciate the support that you have given me over the years, not to mention in the recent week, and I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to fight again in the State of Nevada.

Thank you.

RENATO "BABALU" SOBRAL

The cast for “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Serra vs. Team Hughes”: Matt Arroyo, Daniel Barrera, Blake Bowman, Mac Danzig, Paul Georgieff, Richie Hightower, John Kolosci, Troy Mandaloniz, Billy Miles, Roman Mitichyan, Dorian Price, Jared Rollins, Ben Saunders, Joe Scarola, George Sotiropoulis, and Tommy Speer.

During the six-week Ultimate Fighter competition, the sixteen men endured a grueling regimen of jiu-jitsu, judo, muay thai, karate, boxing and wrestling. The intense competition between the fighters continued after they left the gym at The Ultimate Fighter House. These warriors were forced to live together, knowing that any day they might be forced to fight each other in the famed UFC Octagon.

In each episode, opponents from each team are selected to square off in battle, officially weighed in and then, in front of their teammates, coaches and the Nevada State Athletic Commission, face off in two five-minute rounds with a sudden death third round in the event of a draw.

Over the first five seasons, the show has delivered approximately two million viewers each week, often beating the NBA, NHL and NCAA football and basketball regular season telecasts head-to-head on Thursday nights with men 18-34.

Craig Piligian of Pilgrim Films and Television, Frank Fertitta III, Lorenzo Fertitta, Dana White of Zuffa, LLC, and Kevin Kay of Spike TV are the show's executive producers. Brian J. Diamond, senior vice president, Sports & Specials, Spike TV is co-executive producer and Christopher Martello is executive in charge of production for Spike TV.

Spike TV is available in 91.6 million homes and is a division of MTV Networks. A unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), MTV Networks is one of the world’s leading creators of programming and content across all media platforms.

NO HOLDS BARRED: Pedro Rizzo, CJ Comu, Art of War 3

8-28-2007, PNW

Denver, CO

http://nhbnews.podOmatic.com/entry/eg/2007-08-27T17_15_25-07_00

On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman continues our preview of the Art of War 3 mixed martial arts show (http://www.artofwarlive.com). This event will be held this Saturday, September 1, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and shown live on pay-per-view television.

We speak with former UFC heavyweight contender and current IFA heavyweight champion Pedro Rizzo, who defends his title against Jeff Monson in the main event at Art of War 3.

We also speak with CJ Comu, the chairman and CEO of SUN Sports & Entertainment Inc. (http://www.sunorganization.com/), the parent company of Art of War, about the business and media aspects of this event.

Also, make sure to check out my weekly boxing show, SecondsOut Radio. On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, at http://www.secondsout.com/radio/, we review the "Punchin' at the Paradise" fight card, which was held Friday, August 24, at the Utopia Paradise Theater in the Bronx, New York, and which was shown in the US on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. After his fight, we spoke with 27-year-old cruiserweight Alfredo Escalera Jr. (15-0-1, 11 KOs), who survived a first round knockdown to take an eight-round decision over Harvey Jolly (6-5-1, 3 KOs). He is the son of the former world super featherweight champion Alfredo "Salsero" Escalera, who attended this fight. The main event featured welterweight Delvin Rodriguez (now 20-2-1, 1 ND, with 12 KOs) in his first fight back after being stopped by Jesse Feliciano in March. His opponent was Keenan Collins (12-2-1, 1 ND, 8 KOs). Rodriguez's attempted comeback fight proved to be anti-climactic, as the bout was halted after the second round due to a cut over Collins's left eye. The referee ruled that the cut was caused by an accidental head butt. Since the fight had not gone at least four rounds, it was declared a no decision. Video replays of the fight, however, seemed to indicate that the cut was caused by a right hand by Rodriguez, and showed no evidence of any head butt by Rodriguez. Controversy ensued, and Ron Scott Stevens, chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission, said he would review the video in the commission's offices this week. We spoke with Ron Scott Stevens after the fight about this controversy, and what the commission does, and does not, have the power to do in such instances. We also asked him about the proposed sanctioning of mixed martial arts in New York. As many people already know, the September 8 fight between Fernando Vargas and Ricardo Mayorga has been postponed after Vargas was found to be suffering from anemia. No new plans for this bout have yet been announced, although its promoters have said that they want to see it rescheduled. The 29-year-old Vargas had already announced that this was to have been his last fight, and that he was now going to become a promoter. Before the announcement of this fight's postponement, we spoke with Fernando Vargas on a media teleconference call this past week to get an idea of what he plans to do after he retires as an active fighter.

HIGH COUNTRY HARLEY presents RING OF FIRE 30: DOMINATION!!

8-25-2007

Denver, CO

RING OF FIRE 30 MAIN CARD ANNOUNCED!

ROF promoter Sven BOOGIE Bean is happy to announce the fight card for ROF 30: DOMINATION . The 12 bout MMA event will take place on Saturday, September 15th 2007 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

UFC, K-1 and Strikeforce veteran, Duane BANG! Ludwig headlines a talent packed fight card. The card will have International appeal with fighters coming from 3 countries including multiple UFC veterans.

Also, for the second time in the seven year history of the promotion, all matches will take place in a cage instead of a ring. " We took a poll at the April event, when we first used the cage, and the response was overwhelming." said promoter Sven Bean. "I would say at least 95 percent of the fans were in favor of it, so I can pretty much say that the cage is here to stay".

Main Event: ROF USA vs. ROF Europe
Last year ROF opened it's European branch in Belgrade, Serbia. The inaugural event was a huge success and was covered in both the European versions of Playboy and Maxim magazines. In February of this year the first ROF European fighter, Damir made his US debut. At ROF 30 that tradition continues as Serbian fighter Dragan Bakula will represent ROF Europe. Bakula, who bring 3-0 MMA record combined with over 20 boxing matches, will be facing one of the most feared strikers in the sport. Duane BANG! Ludwig will represent ROF USA and is looking forward to the match up. "The guy is good. He has great hand speed and punching power and has won all of his mma fights. It's hard to tell how good his ground game is but the European fighters are such good athletes that they are always dangerous. He only has a couple losses in boxing also so I am excited to fight him. I love fighting at home, but besides just representing Colorado, I'm representing the US here too. It adds some pressure for sure, but that will just make me train harder!" said Ludwig.

205 lb CHAMPIONSHIP
It has been said you are not a champion when you win the belt, rather you are a true champion when you defend it. ROF Light Heavyweight Champion Eliot FIRE Marshall couldn't agree more. The BJJ Blackbelt added ROF champ to his long list of credentials in April when he defeated Marcus Sursa via submission. The task of defending the belt will not be an easy one as faces his toughest challenge to date. Canadian Rob MAXIMUS McDonald is a 3 time UFC veteran and appeared on season 2 of the Ultimate Fighter television series. Macdonald was the 2002, 2003, 2004 Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Champion. In 2003, he was ranked #2 by the IKF in Kickboxing (amateur) and has an extensive wrestling background. "I have been training harder than ever for this fight and I look at this as the biggest fight of my career thus far. Eliot Marshall is the real deal, his credentials in the fight world and BJJ world speak for themselves. Myself and my trainers Shah Franco and Brian Bynoe have put together a great game plan for success and with hard work I'm confident it will pay off. I really just want to be the best fighter in the world and reach my potential as an athlete. Winning the Ring of Fire title and fighting quality opponents like Eliot bring me closer to that goal."

115 lb FEATURE BOUT
Women's combat sports has shown an incredible increase in fan support in the last few years. Promotions such as Strikeforce, Elite XC and Bodog Fights have consistently featured female athletes. Recently the Oxygen Channel contributed with the reality based program Fight Girls. One of the stars of that series, Michelle Waterson will return to MMA competition at ROF 30. Waterson is known as much for her good looks as for her fighting ability. Her nickname "The Karate Hotty" comes from her work as a Hooters girl and bikini model. But don't judge the book by the cover, Waterson can fight. She has been trained in the martial arts from an early age progressing from Kung Fu to Muay Thai, and eventually BJJ and MMA. While based in Denver, she trains her ground game at Team Jackson's in Albuquerque, NM. Currently 1-1 in MMA, Waterson is hoping to continue to represent MMA in a positive way for women all over the world. Her opponent also has a base in Muay Thai but has progressed to MMA. Action MMA fighter Jaime Cook relies heavily on her stand up skills but is also very comfortable on the ground. She has a perfect 2-0 record in MMA. She has finished both opponents by TKO, with one having a 30 lb weight advantage. Cook is also the sparring partner and teammate of top ranked Bodog fighter Shayna Baszler.

175 lb FEATURE BOUT
UFC veteran Chad Reiner has a reputation for being one of the hardest workers in the industry. He prides himself on his conditioning and feels that is his strongest weapon in the cage. This was very evident in his ROF 24 performance against Jay Jack. Reiner was non stop in a punishing attack that gave him a unanimous decision after 3 rounds. He credits his time in the marines for instilling his work ethic while training. Reiners record is an outstanding 18-4 and is a VFC Champion. Chilo Gonzalez has a love- hate relationship with the fans. Half the crowd wants to see him win, the other to see him lose, but none the less they come to see him. He can appear brash, and often times even disrespectful to his opponents. It's all part of the game to Gonzalez however and see's it as a way to get into his opponents head. When asked about his opponent, true to character he responded " He is a really good fighter. I respect his wrestling but I just wonder how many teeth he is willing to lose before he gives up a submission!". Gonzalez is a WEC veteran with tremendous athletic ability. He has had an up and down career but always brings aggression, intensity and tenacity in the cage. Gonzalez normally fights at middleweight and Reiner prefers welterweight so a catch weight of 175 lbs was agreed upon for the bout.

265 lb FEATURE BOUT
ROF has long been known as a launch pad for fighters careers. But it has also been known mostly for the lower weight classes. That is all about to change on September 15th. One of the most athletic heavyweights in the game will make his long awaited ROF debut. Shane MONSTER Carwin is a NCAA Division II National Wrestling Champion , 3 time NCAA Division II Wrestling All-American and a 2 time NCAA Division II Football All-American. He stand 6'4" tall and weighs 265 lbs. He also has a perfect 5-0 record in MMA. Once you get past the sheer size of Carwin, you would be hard pressed to believe he is a fighter. The "gentle giant" is very calm, polite and respectful... unless you happen to be standing across the cage from him. Once the cage door closes and the bell rings the Monster comes out. None of his previous 5 matches have made it past the first round and he has finished all of his opponents. Rick NOTORIOUS Slaton has a bit of a bad reputation. Slaton was part of the now infamous Ultimate Athlete show in 2002 . He has also had his fair share of scrapes with the law, but has since seen the error of his ways. With a new outlook and a fresh start Rick is ready to take the MMA world by storm. He has channeled his energy into training and wants to make a serious run at becoming a threat in the heavyweight division. Rick has sought out some of the best trainers in the San Diego area to help improve his game. His last fight was in October of 2006 where scored a TKO victory at the Total Combat 17 event. Life is all about second chances, but the Badboy has a mountain to climb and a monster to slay to fulfill his dream.

UNDERCARD BOUTS

The preliminary and undercard matches will round out an amazing night of fights. Some of the best up and coming fighters in the region are featured including Brandon Thatch, Cody Donovan, Kenneth Seegrist, Jesse Henely, Seth Bregman, Brad Fox, Jason Ramstedder, Ralston Baker and Sean Doherty.
